HIPerSpace supervisualization system we have been working with since 2008, we now have access to a smaller 15 tiled display wall located in the same space where we work - CRCA (Center for Research in Computing and the Arts). The new wall is running the same interactive visualization software as the big wall.
The tiled display is on generous loan to CRCA from Scripps.
Its amazing to have this system right in our working area and be able to use it anytime.

Playpower no Brasil | Playpower project in Brazil
O projeto Playpower esteve no Brasil nos dias 17 e 19 de maio de 2010 para palestras na Universidade Mackenzie e na Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF). Os pesquisadores Jeremy Douglass e Don Miller participaram de inúmeras atividades envolvendo palestras e workshops para produção de jogos educacionais em 8 bits.
The Playpower project team was in Brazil for a serie of lectures and workshops on May 2010. Jeremy Douglass and Don Miller spent almost one week in Brazil lecturing in São Paulo, Juiz de Fora and Rio de Janeiro.

2 New Grants Awarded to Software Studies Initiative
We were awarded two new grants which will allow us to keep going forward with Cultural Analytics research:
1.
agency: National Endowment for the Humanities
amount: $ 50,000 USD
This grant will allow us to further develop the desktop visualization software which allows exploration of patterns in sets of images or video. The software will be distributed as open source.
2.
agency: California Institute for Telecommunication and Information (Calit2)
amount:$ 38,940 USD
This grant will allow us to further develop our visualization application which runs on the HIPerSpace - currently the highest resolution visualization system in the world (315 megapixels). It will also allow us to further advance cultural analytics methods via the analysis of 1 million Manga pages.
An example of a visualization of our Manga data generated with our desktop "image graph" software. The tool was developed by Lev Manovich and Jeremy Douglass. (It took about two days to render this image which includes 1 million Manga pages sorted by X = standard deviation, Y = entropy).
